  1. This morning was gross — hazy…and disgusting. Partially burned-off fog mixed with Los Angeles smog — visibility a mile or less, little respite from the glaring sun as I walked the not-my-dog between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. I marveled at well-manicured landscaping next to ghetto blight on unfamiliar streets.

I spent most of the rest of the day resting in bed behind drawn blinds.

I had to go out later — to the library to print sonething and to get some water on the way home. I came out of the library just at sunset. The sun was setting over the Santa Monica Mountains, and I closed my eyesto imagine the view over each subsequent mountain range and valley betweem me and the sea — I’d lived in the next county over for most of my life and knew each familiar westward vista well.

There was a flock of pigeons flying in patterns in the sky over the urban ghetto sprawl that us “home.” I have a weirdly special love for pigeons, especially since Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, Jr.’s reflections in Steve Lopez’s The Soloist. Pigeons — doves in street clothes. Do you know that they dance?!?!?!?!

They dance — beautifully, like prairie fowl or chickens.

    Sunset, and pigeons.

  2. It is a gorgeous summer day in Wisconsin, USA and I took a walk by the lake. Hope to watch the sunset in an hour (it is still Monday in the U.S.). I am awed by God’s artistry.

    Peace,
    W. Ockham
