Day 22 of #31DayswithIgnatius

#Day22of31WithIggy: The #Feast of St #MaryMagdalene. Today’s image started off as a prayer for #life; that we may see through the day with all things that bring life. (#Consolation, in Ignatian terms) It proceeded onto a meditation on Mary Magdalene and while at the tomb after Jesus’ death, she approached a man who she thought was a gardener. On hearing that Jesua was no longer there, she began to cry (#desolation); until this man to whom she went revealed himself to her by calling her by name.

I’m so thankful that @franciscus #PopeFrancis has elevated this day to a feast of the same level as the other apostles. Pray for us, Mary Magdalene. Apostle to the Apostles and exemplary woman of the Church.

In celebration of Ignatian Spirituality, and to mark the feast of St Ignatius of Loyola (31 July), I have taken on the challenge of posting a picture a day that speaks to me of the lessons learned from all things ‘Ignatian’; including ‘finding God in all things.’ Here it is, as posted on Instagram (@fcjAustralia).

Day 21 of #31DaysWithIgnatius

IMG_20160721_221426.jpg#Day21of31withIggy: After yesterday’s emotional day, and today’s busy one, I seek #solitude and #silence. A perfect expression of my mood at this moment comes from the Spiritual Exercises, no. 234.

Day 17 of #31DaysWithIgnatius

iggyday17.JPG

Here is tonight’s glorious #sunset; which when coupled with this #prayer by@jamesmartinsj, makes for an invitation to an #examen:

“Who did I love today, God?
Who did you let me love?
Who did you call me to love?
Who was difficult to love?
Who loved me?

Thank you.”

Day 13 of #31DaysWithIgnatius

iggyday13

Today’s insight comes from #discernment of spirits. St Ignatius taught that #consolation is an increase of grace, the good spirit “strengthens and encourages… establishes#peace” whereas the #badspirit “proposes all the problems and difficulties in living a good life”. [#spex315]

I am especially #grateful for this insight. And am so grateful for my #Ignatian#formation in unlocking this. (Quotes from#SpEx from “Draw Me Into Your Friendship” by David Fleming)

Day 9 of #31DaysWithIggy

iggyday9.JPG

Took #Iggy out into the #garden to get some #sun. It’s a beautiful day and neighbourhood #birds and #children alike broke out into silly #song, with the latter singing #handelsmessiah (no joke). Little did they know they were #praisingGod.

Day 7 of #31DaysWithIgnatius

iggyday7

Being #busy forces me to prioritise.
So I recall the #firstprinciple and foundation:

“The First Principle and Foundation invites us to see the world as a product of love. We have to affirm the goodness of the world. The first grace is to know that each one of us is a product of God’s love.” Excerpt from Discovering Your Dream: How Ignatian Spirituality Can Guide Your Life by Gerald M. Fagin, SJ

Day 5 of #31DaysWithIgnatius

iggyday5

When there’s so much to be done and so many voices to attend; whether I am inspired or exhausted, it is a gift to find myself #grateful for the One whose #Spirit lives in me.

Day 4 of #31DaysWithIgnatius

#Day4of31withIggy: God fills our days with #surprise. Here is Baxter, a rescue #dog and now newest family member. I also learnt today from our neighbour that a dog’s nose print is unique and individual to each, as a fingerprint. There’s no mistaking the hand of God at work here in all #creation. And in and through it all, God loves and cares for each one.

Day 2 of #31DaysWithIgnatius

iggyday2

#day2of31withIggy: The #sun is setting on 2 July 2016; Election Day in#Australia. This goes out with a #prayer for peace, for guidance and adherence to the #HolySpirit; indeed the good spirits that #StIgnatius teaches us about following, under the banner of #Christ.

The right to #vote is something I take seriously, and something I am so grateful for, since so many in the world are denied a voice for effective change. I bring to mind the #asylumseekers and#refugees who’ve ran from their homelands to seek a safe haven in Oz, especially those locked up and denied#freedom. May God rouse our leaders to compassion, righteousness and love under the values of all that is holy and good. Ad majorem Dei gloriam.

#day1of31withiggy: One of the first things I learnt about Ignatian spirituality was the gift of #noticing. Yesterday I noticed this tiny #leaf on the ground, dotted with #raindrops. I lost some trying to pick up said leaf, but was still able to delight in its wonder.
